The National Union of Eritrean Youth and Students (NUEYS) hosted the first Executive Committee Meeting of the PYU in Asmara, Eritrea from 8-9 March 2012.
It was in this meeting that members of the executive committee, which includes the president and secretary general of the PYU, as well as vice-presidents and deputy secretary generals from all 5 sub-regions on Africa, discussed in great detail the annual action plan of PYU. The annual action plan was developed in line with the 3-year Plan of Action adopted by PYU during its 3rd Congress last December. It was during this meeting that the EC decided to give NUEYS the responsibility to develop the PYU magazine and to develop the PYU fundraising plan.
Besides the meeting, the participants were treated to a tour around Asmara, including the Patriots’ Cemetery, the Tank Graveyard, and the market area of Asmara, where they were also able to witness the harmony among the different religions in Eritrea.
Participants of the 1st Executive Committee of the PYU came from South Africa, Mali, Zimbabwe, Egypt, Sudan, Namibia, Libya and Eritrea. The participants were namely Andile Lungisa (PYU President—South Africa), Abdoulaye Toure (PYU Secretary General—Mali), Youssef Mohammed Warday Mohammed (Vice-President of PYU for North Africa—Egypt), Abubakr Mahmoud Saaid (Deputy Secretary General of PYU for North Africa—Libya), Hassan Idriss (Deputy Secretary General—Sudan), Mandela Kapere (Vice-President of PYU for Southern Africa—Namibia), Tendai Wenyika (Deputy Secretary General of PYU for Southern Africa—Zimbabwe), and Rahel Weldeab (Vice-President of East Africa/Indian Ocean—Eritrea). Besides these executive committee members, representatives for the National Youth Councils of Egypt, South Africa, Mali and from NUEYS participated in this important meeting.
